ActionSA Demands Probe Over Alleged R16m eThekwini Tender Awarded to Wanted Fugitive
ActionSA in the eThekwini Municipality has officially written to the City Manager, demanding urgent transparency and accountability regarding a controversial R16 million municipal tender.
This intervention follows alarming public allegations that a multimillion-rand contract was awarded to a company owned by a Zimbabwean national who is currently accused of terrorising women and evading law enforcement in Johannesburg.
The political party is demanding a comprehensive review of the supply chain management processes that led to the approval of the contract.
According to ActionSA, the municipality must clear the air on whether due diligence, background verification, and vetting procedures were compromised before state funds were allocated.
“The public deserves to know how a company linked to an individual facing such severe criminal allegations could successfully secure a R16 million contract within our municipality,” the party stated.
The City Manager has been urged to table a full report outlining the scope of the tender, the compliance status of the bidding entity, and the immediate steps the municipality intends to take if the procurement process is found to have been irregular.
Local authorities have yet to issue an official response to the demands.
