AFRICAN UNION WANTS THE SAHEL BACK.

The President of the African Union is currently visiting the AES nations to meet with Captain Ibrahim Traoré of Burkina Faso, General Abdourahamane Tchiani of Niger, and Colonel Assimi Goïta of Mali.

The purpose of the visit is to strengthen relations, improve cooperation, and discuss the growing security challenges facing the Sahel.

According to reports, the African Union wants to work more closely with the AES in addressing terrorism and regional stability.

However, many critics in Burkina Faso say they do not trust the African Union, arguing that the AU remained largely silent during some of the region’s biggest security and political challenges

For them, the question is not whether the AU wants the Sahel back…

The question is whether the Sahel still wants the AU.

For now, the official response from the AES leaders on whether they will fully embrace the AU’s renewed engagement is still being awaited.

If you were advising Captain Traoré, Assimi Goïta, and Abdourahamane Tchiani, would you tell them to rebuild ties with the African Union or continue on their current path?
