AFRIFORUM CALLS FOR JULIUS MALEMA TO FACE 18 MONTHS IN PRISON AND FOR THE EFF TO BE FINED R500,000 OVER CONTROVERSIAL LAND REMARKS AS DEBATE OVER LAND REFORM AND FREE SPEECH INTENSIFIES IN SOUTH AFRICA
AfriForum has renewed its campaign against EFF leader Julius Malema following remarks in which he spoke about returning land to what he described as its rightful owners. In a social media post, AfriForum argued that Malema’s statements warrant legal consequences, calling for an 18-month prison sentence and a R500,000 fine against the EFF.
The organization shared a video clip of Malema saying: “Today they have a problem with Malema. Why? Malema is not a problem. Malema says, ‘Give these people land, give these people land’. The stolen land must be returned into the hands of the rightful owners.’”
The latest dispute comes amid South Africa’s long-running debate over land reform, historical land dispossession, and property rights. Supporters of the EFF argue that land redistribution is necessary to address historical injustices, while critics believe some of the party’s rhetoric could fuel division and uncertainty.
AfriForum has urged members of the public to support its campaign against Malema, while the issue continues to spark heated reactions across the political spectrum.
