UPND’s Bywell Simposya has lost the Kasama Mayoral seat after serving as Mayor for about seven months, with NRPUP’s Peter Yuda reclaiming the position he narrowly lost to Simposya in January this year.
Yuda polled 54,269 votes to defeat Simposya, who managed 16,588 votes.
Simposya was first elected Mayor on 29 January 2026, securing 17,647 votes, representing 41 percent of the valid votes cast.
He defeated Yuda, who was then contesting under the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD), after he polled 14,302 votes, representing 33 percent.
Yuda has now returned to take over the same mayoral seat under the NRPUP banner.
Kasama District Electoral Officer John Mwanza declared Yuda the winner last evening and said the election was conducted peacefully, with no incidents of violence recorded.
