One of the greatest midfielders of his generation. A World Cup winner who has given everything for France throughout his career. Yet, from the beginning of the tournament until France’s elimination, he never made it off the bench.
Many feel he was taken along only out of obligation and was never given the role or respect he deserved.
For a player admired for his humility and known as “the smile of football,” this World Cup ended by taking even that smile away.
