We keep seeing takes that only exist for clicks and “FIFA validation” . The latest one? Ronaldo doesn’t deserve to be in the GOAT debate because he doesn’t have a World Cup. That take is one of the funniest I’ve ever heard .
With all due respect — everything this man has earned in his career is pure hard work . He never even played junior football. He was called straight up to the senior team because that’s how needed he was. Only a handful of players in history can say that.
Now think about what he did for Portugal . Before him, nobody outside Europe really knew Portugal as a footballing nation — maybe you’d hear about Eusébio, and that’s it, going back 40-50 years. Ronaldo took Portugal from “who?” to a country people genuinely expect to challenge for the World Cup. That alone deserves respect, not ridicule.
Look at the double standards too:
– Van Bastein played a full World Cup tournament, 5 matches, zero goals. Nobody drags him.
– Zlatan “the Lion” Ibrahimović never scored at a World Cup and barely got Sweden there in his prime. Nobody blames him. Despite Sweden qualified 13 times before he joined …
But Ronaldo? Teammates coming out publicly to say they didn’t want to play with him, people twisting every angle to bring him down — and somehow that’s fair game?
️ Not winning a World Cup doesn’t erase a legacy.
️ Not everyone gets to walk away with everything — that doesn’t disqualify them from greatness.
I’m an Argentine , and yes — I’ll always big up Messi . But bringing Ronaldo down just to boost someone else isn’t necessary. Outside of Messi, no player has a career and legacy like Cristiano’s. None.
This whole culture of hot takes for engagement needs to stop. Respect the GOATs — both of them.
