ALL LEGAL MARKETEERS WILL HAVE ACCESS TO CDF LOAN FUNDS, SAYS MWEWA
Lusaka City Council Mayor-Elect Mwewa Chitambala says traders who move from the streets into designated markets will have greater access to financing opportunities, including loans available through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Mr. Chitambala says one of the major benefits of moving street vendors into formal markets is that traders can be properly identified and verified as Zambian citizens, enabling them to access government-supported business opportunities.
He says the current situation, where trading takes place informally on the streets, makes it difficult to establish the identity and eligibility of traders seeking market financing, potentially resulting in non-Zambians benefiting from funds intended for Zambian citizens.
“Apart from our town looking clean, there are a lot of benefits that come with traders going into the market. For one to have a trading space in the market means that they would have been confirmed to be Zambian and can apply for a loan under CDF to sustain their business,” Mr. Chitambala stated.
The Mayor-Elect says bringing traders into designated markets will also create greater order and open up opportunities that may not be available under the current street-trading arrangement.
“Where there is order, there are a lot of opportunities which come with that order. So in less than 48 hours, all street vendors have to find a space in the markets dotted around the city of Lusaka,” he stated.
Mr. Chitambala has maintained that the relocation of street vendors is intended not only to improve cleanliness and order in Lusaka but also to create a more structured environment in which traders can access formal business opportunities.

All talk no walk chitimbala….
You threatened that you clean up and act on vendors. Here you are. Zero…vendors have just moved from you fathers building. Beyond that zero.
What CDF loans? Two days ago we were told not more loans would be disbursed on account of poor recovery. 30% of what was paid out has been recovered. Where will you Mwewa get the money to dish out as loans? What kind of institution is UPND turning into? You say one thing in the “morning” in the “afternoon” its an “about turn?”
Stop tainting the party’s name with lies. Can the state afford to be dishing out loans that wont be paid back? The carrot effect of what you intend to do, wont work.
All accent but not real thought is placed into what you want to attain. Two days bakupesha ma vendor? 30% collected with no prosecution or effort to pursue prior debtors. Its a reckless suggestion that wont work….
