OUR NEWS UPDATE: KAMANGA DEFENCE CASE BEGINS TODAY

The defence case in the Chongwe East parliamentary election petition begins today, with witnesses for MP-elect Anita Kamanga expected to take the stand before the Lusaka High Court.

This follows the presentation of evidence by witnesses called by former Lands Minister Sylvia Masebo, who is challenging Kamanga’s election victory and has alleged electoral misconduct during the campaign.

Kamanga has denied the allegations and maintains that neither she nor her agents committed, authorised or permitted violence, intimidation or harassment against Masebo or her supporters..

The Electoral Commission of Zambia has also defended the election and asked the court to dismiss the petition.

Chongwe Times is following the proceedings.
