ARCHBISHOP ALICK BANDA: LET HUMILITY PREVAIL – THE CHURCH IS BIGGER THAN ANY INDIVIDUAL

By Patrick Mukosha

As Archbishop Alick Banda prepares to appear before the courts on Friday, 6 November 2026, there is one important lesson he must remember: the courtroom is not a pulpit, and the law does not recognise ecclesiastical rank.

He must resist the temptation to carry the entire Catholic Church into a personal legal matter.

The Church is a sacred institution, serving millions of people, and should never be made to bear the weight of an individual’s legal challenges.

Those surrounding him, making grand promises, issuing political statements and creating expectations of an inevitable victory, should be reminded that court proceedings are determined by evidence and the law, not by applause, religious influence or political connections.

Indeed, those currently giving him false confidence may disappear into thin air the moment the legal realities become uncomfortable.

When the dust settles, Archbishop Banda will be the one personally answering to the court.

If the prosecution establishes a case to answer, he must face that process with dignity, just like every other Zambian.

Nobody is above the law, and nobody should be below its protection.

Archbishop, humility is not weakness. Allow the courts to do their work.

Protect the dignity of the Church, respect the judicial process and remember that the institution you lead is much bigger than any individual controversy.

●Let justice take its course.

The Church must not become a shield against personal accountability.
