ARCHBISHOP IGNATIUS CHAMA SAYS HE IS SADDENED BY WITCH FINDERS WHO HAVE INVADED CHIEF NKOLE MFUMU’S MITI CHIEFDOM

Thursday, 16th March, 2023

Archbishop Ignatius Chama of the Archdiocese of Kasama says he is saddened by witch finders who have invaded Chief Nkole Mfumu’s Miti Chiefdom of Kasama District.

Archbishop Chama, who was in Chief Nkole Mfumu’s palace village to celebrate the sacrifice of Holy Mass on Sunday (12 March 2023), says he was informed that the witch finders from Tanzania are 10 altogether.

The Archbishop of Kasama further reveals that he learnt that they are in the area at the invitation of Chief Nkole Mfumu, disclosing that they have been invited to cleanse witches in villages of Miti Chiefdom.

‘But you the citizens of a Christian nation, have you accepted that foreigners should come to your areas to loot your wealth and sow seeds of hatred and division in communities just because a Chief is afraid of death?’ Archbishop Chama asks.

He further asks whether it is because there are benefits accruing from the witch cleansing exercise being shared with the witch finders.

The Chief Shepherd of the Archdiocese of Kasama says people are struggling not only to put food on the table, but also to educate their children, adding that instead of protecting them, their ruler does not see the kind of suffering his subjects are subjected to.

‘Their ruler elects to force them to donate their hard-earned money towards witch finding in addition to threatening them with deportation from the chiefdom,’ he further notes.

And Archbishop Chama has told police officers that the case of witch finding in Chief Nkole Mfumu’s Chiefdom is a well known issue which they are aware of.

‘Simply because no one has come forward to complain doesn’t mean people are not subjected to suffering,’ he explains.

Archbishop Chama says because the Chief has shut police officers’ mouths, no village community member from the affected village communities can have the audacity to make a complaint to the police against the chief.

Archbishop Chama reminds the police that the duty Zambians have entrusted to the Zambia Police Service is maintaining law and order.

The Chief Shepherd was speaking this On his Weekly Radio program dubbed ‘ISHIWI LYAKWA KACHEMA’ on Lutanda RADIO Station which comes every Wednesday at 15 00 Hours and a Repeat on Thursdays at 09 15 Hours.
