LOSING CANDIDATES FOR MILANZI AND CHITAMBO CONSTITUENCIES PETITIONS ELECTION RESULTS
Two UPND losing parliamentary candidates for Milanzi and Chitambo constituencies have petitioned the election results in the Lusaka High Court.
Milanzi Constituency candidate Tylad Lungu has submitted that the election was marred by widespread illegal practices and other misconduct in connection with the parliamentary election.
Mr. Lungu polled 4,424 votes, while independent candidate Lumankio Zulu polled 5,004 votes and was declared the winner.
And Chitambo parliamentary candidate Remember Mutale alleges that the respondent engaged in corrupt practices and is seeking an order for the scrutiny and recount of ballots cast at all polling stations.
Mr. Mutale is seeking a declaration that the election of Nelson Kabanda as Member of Parliament is null and void.
The petitioner polled 7,662 votes, while the respondent polled 7,819 votes.
Meanwhile, Green Party leader Peter Sinkamba says it would be unnecessary to hold by-elections in all constituencies where election petitions have been filed.
In an interview, Mr. Sinkamba says it is embarrassing that most of the petitions are coming from the ruling UPND, which he states should not be at the forefront of challenging election results.
