FORMER COPPERBELT POLICE CHIEF YUYI FACES LESSER CHARGE

Former Copperbelt Police Commissioner Mwala Yuyi is now facing a charge of fraudulently dealing in metals, after an earlier charge of Theft by Public Servant was dropped. His lawyer, Siisii Mulele, says the change follows the failure by police to establish the initial charge against his client.

Yuyi was arrested in July alongside five others in connection with the alleged theft of 436 copper cathodes valued at approximately 448-thousand U.S. dollars and recovered in Mufulira District.

The others are Magistrate Edward Banda, police officers Patrick Mutti and Boniface Nchimunya, and Court Clerk Obrian Chipunza, all from Mufulira.
