“As women in Zambia, we don’t want democracy, we only want development, we want President HH to go beyond 2031!”- Hon. Florence Chileshe Chama

WE DID NOT FIGHT FOR THIS IN 1991

I have heard with shock a nominated UPND MP by the name of FLORENCE CHILESHE CHAMA saying “on behalf of all women, we don’t want democracy in our country, what we want is development” end of quote.

Nominated Member of Parliament, FLORENCE CHILESHE CHAMA, who gave you the power to speak on behalf of all Zambian women?
Zambian women queued in 1991 to bring multiparty democracy. Zambian women suffered under one-party state. Our mothers know what it means to have no voice.

Zambia is a Democratic Republic by Article 1 of our Constitution. Sovereignty belongs to the PEOPLE, not to a political party, not to a nominated MP.

We cannot continue with this kind of thinking. Since UPND ascended to power, we have seen too many of its stooges indirectly pushing this same wicked agenda of killing democracy and telling us democracy is expensive or useless.

South Africa’s IEC has just shown SADC what TRUE independence means – even the ruling ANC can be locked out for late submission. That is democracy.

In Zambia, we are moving in the opposite direction. Today you say we don’t want democracy, tomorrow you will say we don’t want elections.
We say NO. We want democracy. We want the Constitution respected. Zambia will remain a democracy.

  1. Aweeee…iyooo.Stop that language…..ifwe we want democracy and development.Concentrate on development not iyo third term language mwaamba

  2. That’s the idea of nominated MP, lick the finger that feeds you. That beyond 2031 language is dangerous to development because it will bring problems to change the constitution.

  3. It not even third term..NO! It is changing the constitution from 2 terms for President to performance based though subjected to every 5 years elections just like MPs, Mayors, Council Chairpersons and Councilors. The question why is it only the President remains tied to 2 terms when he is the leader for all politicians who are on unlimited contracts. The 2 terms changes have made Countries back and forth in developmental vision: We could’ve been beyond where are today long time ago if Presidents contract is performance based. Bad leadership and corruption he is voted out…That it! BUT if he/she is doing excellently well WHY should 2 terms make us lose him/her. The crusade and advocacy for NO TWO TERMS WILL START SOON. I know “they” don’t want to hear that.
