ATTEND NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER ON OCTOBER 18, NOT DECEMBER 29, SAYS GIVEN KATUTA.
Rev. Dr. Given Katuta Mwelwa says Christians will continue to observe October 18 as a day of prayer, fasting and reconciliation despite the government’s decision to combine the occasion with Zambia’s Christian heritage commemoration on December 29.
In a statement addressed to Zambians and Christians, Rev. Dr. Mwelwa argued that October 18 was established as a National Day of Prayer and should not be treated as belonging to any political party.
She urged Christians to continue gathering in churches, homes and night vigils to pray for the country, regardless of the government’s decision.
“The government can keep the stadiums. They can keep Heroes Stadium and all public places where we used to gather.
“But they cannot stop us Christians from being the Christians who have believed that there is a time of coming together as a nation to petition God with prayer, fasting and reconciling with one another,” she said.
Rev. Dr. Mwelwa’s remarks come amid debate over the decision to merge the National Day of Prayer with the Christian heritage commemoration on December 29.

The government actually said as a Christian you can pray every day. What will not happen on 18th is a public holiday, this one will not happen. Otherwise please you are free to fast, pray and call upon Jesus if you only do it on 18th.
The clergy playing politics as usual. Ati the national day of prayer is established for 18th October. By who? God or Man?
The only day established as the Lord’s day is the sabbath. Anything else is a misuse of God’s name. A clear flouting of the third commandment.
Rev. Katuta Mwelwa is merely playing politics.
Go at your own risk because if there is an illegal gathering then you will be dealt with
Also its not a public holiday so if you decide to skip work, school or whatever you will be dealt with.
It’s petty politicians like this ‘reverend’ who have cheapened Christianity. Extremely petty and childish..
