BBC journalist Buyoya says some young MPs are “a bit raw”!

BBC journalist Digindaba Jonah Buyoya says some of the young Members of Parliament (MPs) are still inexperienced and need to understand the responsibility that comes with public office.

Commenting on the young legislators, Buyoya said he agreed that some of them were “a bit raw,” adding that their young age meant they still had a lot to learn through experience.

“I completely agree that some of the youngsters who have made it to Parliament are a bit raw. You can’t fault them; they genuinely are very young and life is all about lessons,” he said.

However, Buyoya said the young MPs must recognise that they are now leaders whose words and actions affect citizens across all generations.

He cautioned that public statements by elected representatives should not be treated as casual conversations, as their remarks carry weight and can influence the country’s direction.

“This is not just banter in a WhatsApp group. What they say now matters and quite literally shapes what becomes of the rest of us,” he said.

Buyoya urged the young lawmakers to think carefully and exercise sound judgment before making public statements, given the responsibility that comes with their positions.
