BEMBA ROYAL ESTABLISHMENT ACCUSES ARMED GROUP OF INTIMIDATING VILLAGERS OVER KAFWAYA’S BURIAL SITE

By Nelson Zulu

The Bemba Royal Establishment has accused a group of heavily armed people of threatening and coercing villagers in Lisunga, Lunte District, to disclose the burial site of the late former Member of Parliament Mutotwe Kafwaya

In a statement Bemba Royal Establishment Secretary Richard Mukuka says Senior Chief Shibwalya-Kapila of the Lisunga Bemba Kingdom reported the alleged incident to Paramount Chitimukulu Kanyanta-Manga II.

Mr. Mukuka says the group, reportedly travelling in six vehicles, is allegedly using threats to force villagers to reveal where Mr. Kafwaya was buried

The establishment says Bemba customary law requires community matters to be reported to the territorial chief, who then refers them to Chitimukulu or the Chitimukulu-in-Council.

The Bemba Royal Establishment has described the alleged intimidation as provocative, warning that the use of threats to force villagers to disclose a burial site raises concerns about respect for Bemba customs and traditions.

According to official statements from the Central Joint Operations Committee, Mr. Kafwaya was shot and killed during a joint security operation in Kabulonga, Lusaka, on August 14, 2026.
