I WINE LOST BECAUSE UGANDANS SEE HIM AS A POPSTAR , NOT PRESIDENTIAL MATERIAL ” FRANK GASHUMBA
Controversial Ugandan political commentator Frank Gashumba has sparked heated debate with his analysis of why opposition leader Bobi Wine lost the January 15 presidential election to Yoweri Museveni.
In a recent interview, Gashumba claimed that many Ugandans still view Bobi Wine as a celebrity rather than a serious leader. “People attend his rallies to see a popstar, not a future head of state,” he said.
Despite massive crowds and national visibility, Gashumba argues the opposition failed to convert popularity into votes and lacked the political structure needed to mount an effective challenge.
The election remains highly controversial, with widespread reports of voter intimidation, security crackdowns, and harassment of opposition supporters. Official results gave Museveni 72% and Bobi Wine 25%.
