By elections coming as some councilors have got jobs as teachers – Nkombo

By Daily Star Reporter

It is clear that under the old regime, we had cases where a teacher was a district chairman for a political party, Minister of Local Government Garry Nkombo has said.

Nkombo said there will be a lot of by elections as some incumbent councilors have been swallowed up in the teacher’s recruitment.

He said this in Parliament today.

“The reality of the matter Madam Speaker is that, as I speak to you now, as the Minister responsible for Local Government and Rural Development, I can confirm firmly that a number of by elections are coming as a result of councilors from both the PF and ourselves who have got jobs as teachers,” he said.

“Isn’t that an encouragement to members of the society? Madam speaker, someone says they can do both. It is clear that under the old regime, we had cases where a teacher was a district chairman for a political party.”

He said the New Dawn Administration is a government that observes laws adding that anyone in the anybody who takes a partisan position must not in the civil service.

The lawmaker said concerning the CDF issue that some constituencies during the previous regime would spend two years without receiving their funds.

Nkombo reiterated that government will disburse the CDF quarterly.

“In the past some constituencies would spend two years without receiving the K1.5 million CDF. As I am speaking now madam speaker, we have disbursed K6.3 million to every Constituency and today is 22nd of July. This is what I meant when I said the truth has no disguise. Please just take your head off the sand like an ostrich and tell the people the truth that this government is working,” he said. See
