CALLS GROW FOR UKRAINE TO HOLD ELECTIONS AMID MARTIAL LAW
Following Russia’s decision to hold parliamentary elections, including in Ukrainian territories occupied by Russian forces and despite ongoing fighting, some voices are now calling on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to organize presidential elections despite the country’s martial-law restrictions.
🗣️ “If Putin was able to hold parliamentary elections in these regions even under fire, I don’t see why Ukraine cannot hold its own elections,” one observer said.
Ukraine has suspended national elections under martial law, citing the ongoing war and security conditions. Any decision to hold elections would therefore involve legal, security and logistical considerations.
