President Biya has reshuffled his senior military staff. The Cameroon president has been out of the public eye for about two (2) months.
Commanders in four of Cameroon’s five joint military regions have been replaced and the head of the Presidential Guard promoted from colonel to brigadier.
The changes were part of a military reshuffle by presidential decree signed on Monday.
President Pau Biya, who at 93 is the world’s oldest head of state, has been out of the country since June 7 2026.
His extended absence is fueling public speculation about his health, whereabouts and ability to govern.
On Sunday, government spokesperson Rene Emmanuel Sadi told French broadcaster RFI “the president is alive” and will soon return.
