CATHOLIC PRIEST BACKS MUNDUBILE’S DECISION TO REJECT ELECTION RESULTS

Chingola Based Catholic Priest Father Augustine Mwewa has backed Tonse Alliance Presidential Candidate Brian Mundubile’s decision to reject the 2026 election results, saying the electoral process was flawed.
Father Mwewa says the alleged irregularities recorded during the elections are overwhelming and should not simply be ignored, arguing that Mr. Mundubile has a right to challenge the outcome through the courts.
He has questioned the conduct of the electoral process, particularly the alleged stopping of vote counting, withdrawal of accreditation and the reported involvement of security personnel in election-related activities.
Father Mwewa has also criticized what he describes as conflicting government statements surrounding the alleged abduction and attempted shooting of opposition figures, saying such incidents have caused trauma to affected families.
He says despite concerns about the legal system, Mr. Mundubile and his supporters should pursue legal remedies and allow the evidence to be placed on record, instead of resorting to violence.
Meanwhile, Father Mwewa has called for peace, saying Zambia should thank god for having leaders who, despite rejecting the election outcome, have chosen to pursue legal avenues to seek redress.

When things like this happen, my mind rolls back to the role a certain church performed in the Rwanda genocide. Some Churches never learn. Very Sad.
It’s about we amended our constitution to bar any clergy or church to be involved in politics. We have to delink the two the State and the Church. There’s no amount of guilt if we did away with these charlatans. They are evil and don’t mean well for the country. I’m shocked that so far none of them have come out to blame Binwell Mpundu’s videos nor the self declaring by Mundubile to have won the elections when only 1% of votes had been counted. No one has ever condemned that. Then comes the Militia story…bali che ndwi.
We need to amend the constitution to bar anyone for that matter from any religious group to talk about politics. Abroad they have no say in how governments are run whatsoever why in Africa and particularly Zambia why..?

The Catholic Church, along with many of its priests, has historically held a negative view of the UPND Political Party, even during its time in opposition. Certain Catholic priests have shown bias and have made efforts to undermine the UPND. Their coordinated actions began well before the elections, driven by a desire to see the UPND removed from power.
The Catholic Church has been encouraging the public to rise against the UPND government, and their statements could potentially incite unrest in Zambia. While they may assert that they advocate for justice and fairness, many do not exemplify Christ-like behaviour, instead acting as pretenders concealing their own shortcomings within the Church. They profess to promote peace and justice, yet the Catholic Church appears politically biased and fosters division. Those priests making reckless political comments in the name of the Church should be regarded as akin to militia members. What is the source of their animosity towards President Hakainde Hichilema while they claim to be Servants of God? God Almighty observes all. During the tenure of the PF under former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, there was significant political violence, intimidation, and wrongful arrests, including fatal shootings, in stark contrast to the current UPND government. The reality is that Brian Mundubile lost the elections, and if he has any grievances, he is welcome to challenge the results through the legal system rather than Catholic priests alleging numerous electoral flaws.
