🇺🇸CENTCOM Chief Returns to USS Abraham Lincoln Amid Growing Morale Concerns
US Central Command chief Adm. Brad Cooper has visited the USS Abraham Lincoln for the second time this year as concerns grow over crew morale following the carrier’s unusually long deployment.
The Lincoln has been operating in the Middle East since January, supporting US military operations against Iran and the blockade of Iranian ports.
➡️ Its sustained combat operations have limited opportunities for port visits, resupply and crew rest.
➡️ The deployment has exceeded the US Navy’s recommended seven-month duration for carrier deployments.
➡️ Reports of declining morale have raised concerns among sailors’ families, who are questioning how long the crew can maintain the current operational tempo.
Cooper described the deployment as one of the “most operationally intense and consequential” of the modern era and praised the crew for their dedication and courage.
His second visit comes as the Navy faces a difficult question:
How long can an aircraft carrier maintain an intense combat deployment before the strain on its crew becomes a serious operational problem?
