CHINA EXPANDS LONG-RANGE AIR POWER CAPABILITIES WITH MAJOR DEPLOYMENT TO EGYPT
China’s Air Force has demonstrated its growing ability to conduct long-range overseas operations, flying more than 6,000 kilometers in approximately nine hours, crossing two continents and four countries to participate in the joint China-Egypt air exercise “Eagle of Civilization 2026.”
🔴 The exercise goes far beyond routine joint flying, covering air combat, command and control, aerial refueling, electronic warfare, reconnaissance, ground-target strikes, and combat search and rescue operations.
🚨 The most significant aspect of the deployment is that Beijing reportedly sent not only fighter jets, but a complete range of supporting air assets, including J-16 fighter aircraft, KJ-500 airborne early-warning and control aircraft, and Y-20/Y-20A strategic transport and tanker platforms.
The deployment is seen as a major test of China’s ability to project and sustain an integrated air combat force far beyond its own territory.
🇪🇬 Egypt is participating in the drills with its MiG-29 and Rafale fighter jets, bringing together Chinese and Western/Russian-designed aircraft in a complex multinational training environment.
The exercise also reflects Beijing’s broader effort to expand military aviation cooperation with foreign partners, giving Chinese forces greater experience in long-distance deployments and overseas operations, while providing opportunities to demonstrate and test China’s domestically produced military aircraft and weapons systems on an international stage.
