China Sends Two Giant Pandas to the United States After Xi-Trump Summit
China has sent two giant pandas, Ping Ping and Fu Shuang, to the United States following Chinese President Xi Jinping’s summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington.
The pandas departed Chengdu on a chartered flight on September 27 and are headed to Zoo Atlanta, where they will stay for 10 years under a China-U.S. cooperation agreement.
The move revives China’s long-standing “panda diplomacy” and comes shortly after Xi and Trump held talks aimed at stabilizing relations between the two countries.
The arrival of the pandas is being viewed as a symbolic gesture of friendship between Beijing and Washington amid broader efforts to manage tensions and expand people-to-people exchanges.
