CHINGOLA UPND MAYORAL LOSING CANDIDATE ROMANA MAMBO PETITIONS 2026 ELECTION RESULTS.
By Festus Ivwananji Sinkala
UPND losing mayoral candidate for Chingola, Romana Mambo, has filed an election petition in the High Court challenging the outcome of the 2026 Chingola Mayoral Election.
In a statement, Ms. Mambo informed the people of Chingola and the general public that she has petitioned the results following her defeat to Nelius Mumba of the NRPUP.
She said the petition is based on discrepancies and irregularities identified in the tabulation, collation, and declaration of results.
According to the UPND Chingola losing Mayor, the seat requires judicial scrutiny to ensure transparency, accountability, and respect for the rule of law.
Ms. Mambo emphasized that every vote counts and that the will of the people must be protected.
She added that she remains confident in the judicial process and urged all her supporters to remain peaceful and patient as the matter proceeds through the courts.
Nelius Mumba of the NRPUP was declared the duly elected Mayor for Chingola District by Chingola District Electoral Officer, Mrs. Namukolo Kalufyanya, after polling 36,917 votes against Ms. Mambo’s 24,753 votes.
The declaration was made on August 18, 2026 during the general election.
The petition will now be determined by the High Court.
