CHIPATA WOMAN ALLEGEDLY RAPED WHILE VIEWING ROOM FOR RENT

She was simply looking for a place to call home.
But what should have been an ordinary room viewing reportedly turned into a frightening ordeal for a woman in Chipata after she was allegedly raped by a man who had offered her accommodation.
The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday, September 13, 2026, in the Chipata Motel Area.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba says the woman, whose identity has been withheld, had been looking for accommodation when she was directed to a house where loud music was playing.
According to Mr Mweemba, the woman knocked on the door and was welcomed by a light-skinned man identified as “Bashi Beauty,” who confirmed that rooms were available.
Police say the woman then asked for a contact number.
Mr Mweemba says the man allegedly told her they would leave together to look for a pen to write down the number.
But police allege that the situation took a disturbing turn when the man allegedly overpowered and raped the woman.
The suspect reportedly fled after the woman managed to seek help from a neighbour.
The matter was later reported at Chipata Central Police Station at around 13:00 hours.
Police issued the woman with a medical report for examination as investigations into the alleged rape commenced.
The suspect remains at large.
Police have continued with investigations as efforts to locate the suspect intensify.
