CHIPOKA MULENGA JUSTIFIES NOT USING BIBLE AS HE TAKES OATH OF OFFICE
Chingola West Member of Parliament Chipoka Mulenga says his decision not to hold a Bible while taking his oath of office was guided by a personal spiritual conviction moments before the ceremony.
Mulenga says his attention was drawn to Matthew Chapter Five, where Jesus teaches against swearing oaths and emphasizes that a person’s “yes” should be yes and their “no” should be no.
The former Commerce Minister says he believes truthfulness should be demonstrated through character, words and actions rather than through the act of taking an oath on a Bible.
He stressed that his decision was personal and should not be seen as criticism of those who choose to hold a Bible when being sworn into office.
Mulenga says he respects different Christian convictions and remains committed to serving the people with integrity, honesty and accountability.
