AFRICA LEGENDS EXHIBITION MATCH SET FOR NOVEMBER

Minister of Youth, Sports, and Arts Elvis Nkandu has disclosed that the Chipolopolo Legends will host the African soccer legend at Heroes Stadium in November this year.

Speaking during a press briefing today at Heroes Stadium, Mr. Nkandu said the match that will will witness the finest African soccer legends such as Asamoah Gyan, JJ Okocha, Didier Drogba, and Debola Adebayo, among others.

Mr. Nkandu said the hosting of the tournament is aimed at unifying people across borders as well as linking Zambia’s tourism industry to other countries.

The Minister said Zambia’s hosting of the tournament is aimed at supplementing the New Dawn administration’s efforts in creation of employment through sports.

“This tournament is aimed at stimulating the mindset of youths towards taking sports disciplines seriously,” said Nkandu.

Mr. Nkandu, who is also a Kaputa Member of Parliament, said that sports can contribute positively to the economic development of this country through the integration of other sectors such as health, tourism, trade, commerce and industry, transport and hospitality.

He further outlined that the organization of the African Legends exhibition will be done using resources from various private entities and business organizations.

Mr Nkandu also implored business entities to consider partnering with the organizers (Kings of Africa) to sponsor the event for marketing purposes.

The minister also said that the ministry will soon put out a tender for the refurbishment of the two stadiums, National Heroes and Levy Mwanawasa, in its quest to host the forthcoming international matches.

He also called on soccer fans to turn out in numbers and support the Chipolopolo legends.
And Kings of Africa, who are the organizers of the event, said that tickets for the match will be accessible through Zamtel Outlets countrywide.

Meanwhile, speaking at the same event, Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan commended the Zambian government for taking the initiative to bring African football legends together.

Mr. Gyan said he is looking forward to meeting the 2012 Champions again.
