CHIWENGA SNUBS CHINAMASA

The Zanu-PF Central Committee that was being held today, Wednesday 14 October 2026, has just ended, but not without drama.

This time, the drama wasn’t about the changes to the constitution, but on the personal clash between VP Chiwenga and Treasurer General Patrick Anthony Chinamasa.

The Chinamasa-Chiwenga clash is a sub-plot to the leadership friction in the ruling party which spilled out into the public domain last Saturday when Chinamasa thanked VP Kembo Mohadi for being “loyal to the President”, a poignant retort that many thought was a dig at VP Chiwenga who wasn’t present at the fundraising ball.

The issue was widely covered in the press and many social media platforms.

When Chinamasa was presenting his department’s report on the party finances and the recently held fundraising dinner, he wanted to placate VP Chiwenga by presenting a gift which he said he was supposed to have given the VP at the fundraising dinner.

VP Chiwenga refused the gift publicly, insisting to Chinamasa that if the gift was his it was supposed to have been delivered at his office or house in the past two days.

☆Meanwhile, Ziyambi Ziyambi proposed changes to the party constitution to align it with the changed national constitution.

He was seconded by Matuke and Machacha.  The CC agreed that the proposed changes were going to be debated at the Conference before they’re sent to party structures, starting from the Cells, then the DCC and the PEC.

The Central Committee agreed that that the process was going to take at least six months, from the time they are debated at the conference thematic comittees, to the time the proposed changes are taken to the Central Committee meeting that will deliberate and vote for their adoption or rejection.
