CHIZOBO WARD IN BALLOT DISPUTE
There is confusion in Chizobo Ward of Magoye East Constituency after an independent council candidate, Morven Hamweenda, raised concerns over the absence of ballot papers for the council election.
Hamweenda says he was shocked to discover that there were no ballot papers bearing his name.
He claims the presiding officer informed him that the UPND candidate, Ashios Hangoma, was going unopposed, despite Hamweenda maintaining that he successfully filed his nomination.
However, Mazabuka District Returning Officer Judith Mukwita Mambo says Hamweenda had written a letter resigning from the election.
Hamweenda has denied writing or submitting any resignation letter.
Mambo says the Electoral Commission of Zambia will now be engaged to provide guidance on the matter.
More details are expected once the ECZ provides guidance on the matter.
