CIVIL SERVANTS TELL UPND: “STICK TO YOUR LANE” STOP THREATENING US
The Civil Servants and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (CSAWUZ) has urged the United Party for National Development (UPND) to “maintain its lane” and allow civil servants to perform their duties without political interference or intimidation.
According to NewsDiggers, the union’s response follows remarks by UPND Lusaka Province Chairperson Obvious Mwaliteta, who on Saturday claimed that the party was compiling a list of civil servants who celebrated opposition leader Brian Mundubile’s election victory.
Mwaliteta reportedly warned that those identified would be fired. CSAWUZ has since called on the ruling party to stop threatening civil servants and respect the professionalism and independence of the public service.

Obvious learn to keep quiet. These things you do them quietly. We know they are by each government. Now you have opened some noise box where when non performers are fired they will run to the media to cry political persecution.
Where were you when PF was firing civil servants. You arr just interested in chewing our funds that we contribute. You kept quiet ro peotect youraelves.
But Unions also should learn to differentiate a warning from a threat. Mwaliteta did not threaten any Civil Servant, he was simply warning those who do not support the government of the day as some were seen celebrating Mundubile’s short lived win. He warned them that they will be fired because of the behavior they exhibited. A CS cannot be working for the government he doesn’t like or support, that’s unacceptable. If a CS wants to go into full time partisan politics, then he should resign from the government, that’s how things have been all along. So I concur with Hon Mwaliteta’s warning, it’s necessary and timely because we want want a disciplined and productive Civil Service which understands and is able to interpret government policies, at the same time effectively carry out government’s developmental agenda. As I conclude, I would like to urge those CSs who not involved in partisan politics to ignore Mwaliteta’s warning but those who openly show that they are in partisan politics, should take Hon. Mwaliteta’s warning seriously because they will be victims very soon.
