CYBERATTACK TARGETS INDIA’S LARGEST NUCLEAR POWER PROJECT, OVER 860,000 FILES REPORTEDLY LEAKED

A major cyberattack has targeted India’s largest nuclear energy facility, the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tamil Nadu, with reports claiming that more than 860,000 files were exposed during the breach.

The leaked data reportedly includes nearly 19,000 documents linked to Units 3 and 4 of the nuclear facility. The stolen files are said to contain sensitive technical information, including engineering designs, cooling system details, and data related to contractors involved in the project.

India’s Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has stated that the incident did not affect reactor operations, nuclear safety systems, or critical control infrastructure. Officials emphasized that the plant’s core safety mechanisms remain secure.

Indian authorities have launched an investigation into the cyber incident, which has reportedly been attributed to the hacking group World Leaks. Investigators are examining the extent of the breach, the origin of the attack, and whether any sensitive national security information was compromised.

The incident has raised renewed concerns over the growing threat of cyberattacks against critical infrastructure, particularly nuclear facilities, as governments worldwide strengthen defenses against increasingly sophisticated digital threats..

Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, one of India’s largest electricity-generating projects, is operated by NPCIL with Russian cooperation and plays a major role in India’s expanding nuclear energy program.
