DAVIDO REVEALS HOW WIZKID, WANDE COAL ADVISED HIM TO BALANCE MUSIC AND SCHOOL:
Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he sought advice from fellow Afrobeats stars Wizkid and Wande Coal when he was trying to balance his education with his growing passion for music.
Speaking in the Afrobeats Documentary, Davido said he approached the two musicians to find out how they managed to leave school and pursue music professionally.
According to the singer, Wizkid and Wande Coal told him that the key to leaving school for music was to first achieve major success in the industry.
“I asked Wizkid and Wande Coal how they left school to do music. They told me the only way was to blow up,” Davido said.
He said he was aware that his father would not support his decision to abandon his education for music.
However, after his hit song Dami Duro became a major success, Davido said his rapidly growing music career made it difficult for him to continue with his studies.
“I knew my dad wouldn’t allow me, but when ‘Dami Duro’ blew up, I couldn’t continue,” he said.
Davido eventually returned to school after reaching an agreement with his father that allowed him to pursue both education and music.
Under the arrangement, he resumed his studies while continuing his musical career, with his father also agreeing to provide him with a recording studio and give him permission to pursue music.
Davido graduated from Babcock University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music, successfully combining his academic journey with an increasingly successful music career.
