DEATHS REPORTED AS MASSIVE FIRE ENGULFS CANADIAN MILITARY BASE

A major fire has swept through a Canadian military base in Alberta, leaving several people dead or injured following a serious incident on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

Canadian Defence Minister David McGuinty confirmed the fatalities and injuries at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright but did not disclose the number of casualties or the cause of the incident.

Strong winds reportedly pushed the flames beyond the military installation, prompting a major emergency response involving firefighters, military personnel and local authorities.

Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed sadness over the tragedy and assured the public that the federal government was working closely with provincial authorities to manage the situation.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and military authorities have launched investigations to establish what triggered the incident.

The military base, located southeast of Edmonton, is one of Canada’s busiest army training facilities
