DISPLACED ZIMBABWEANS’ FURNITURE STUCK IN SA DUE TO PAYMENT IMPASSE
Trucks loaded with goods belonging to Zimbabwean nationals displaced by xenophobic unrest dubbed June 30 are still stationed outside the Mankweng Police Station outside Polokwane in Limpopo.
Some of the owners are still at the police station, while others have already made their way back home. Their furniture and belongings, however, remain stuck due to a payment impasse.
The drivers say they are awaiting a 50 percent upfront deposit to cover delivery costs, fuel and toll fees before the goods can be transported back to Zimbabwe
The Zimbabweans were living in various parts of Limpopo, including Lebowakgomo and Seshego, before they were displaced.
Meanwhile, Minister of Finance Mthuli Ncube said Government has spent about US$5 million on the repatriation of the displaced Zimbabweans.
