Donald Trump moves to cripple the International Criminal Court.
The ICC was created to prosecute war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide, yet Washington now wants to weaken the very institution tasked with holding the powerful accountable.
The Trump administration argues that the move is necessary to protect American soldiers from politically motivated prosecutions and to defend Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials from ICC actions linked to the Gaza genocide.
Critics argue that when the ICC investigates leaders from smaller nations, it is praised as justice. But when investigations reach powerful states and their allies, the court suddenly becomes a target.
Can there be international justice if the world’s most powerful countries decide which laws apply to them and which do not ?
