DON’T ALLOW ZAMBIA TO DEGENERATE INTO MILITIA, PRESIDENT HICHILEMA URGES ZAMBIANS

Lusaka, August 18, 2026

President Hakainde hichilema has has urged Zambians against allowing the country to degenerate into militia and gun culture as this is alien to Zambia.
The President said known for its peace,  Zambia should not slip into violence just because of an election.



In his election acceptance speech delivered through the National address, President Hichilema said the difference in political opinions should not be used as  the recipe  for instability.



He urged those celebrating the 2026 election victory to do so in a non-provocative manner and vice-versa.
“Let us remain peaceful and not allow our country to degenerate in militias and gun culture as this is alien to Zambia.



“I have always said that instability anywhere is instability everywhere. Those  with intentions to injure others have no place in this country,” he said.
He assured all Zambians of protection as his administration continues to defend the peace and protect the constitution.



The President said there was no winner or loser in the 2026 general elections as it was merely a democratic process whose victory goes to the 21 million Zambians.



“Those who voted for us and those who did not vote for us are not supposed to be enemies but brothers and sisters,” he said.
