Duchess of Edinburgh Begins Official Visit to Zambia
The Duchess of Edinburgh has arrived in Zambia for a six-day official visit running from 14 to 19 September, in a trip billed as a celebration of the long-standing friendship between Zambia and the United Kingdom.
Her programme takes in Lusaka, the Lower Zambezi and Livingstone, and covers education, women’s enterprise, health, conservation and culture.
Over the course of the visit, the Duchess will meet Zambians whose work reflects the breadth of the bilateral relationship, including teachers, healthcare workers, business and community leaders, artists and conservationists. The engagements are intended to showcase the range of collaboration between the two countries and the shared ambitions that underpin it.
Details of the visit were confirmed in a statement issued to ZNBC News by Senior Communications Officer Taonga Kaonga.
The Duchess, who is married to Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, is a senior working member of the British royal family and has a long record of overseas engagements focused on women’s empowerment, disability inclusion and conflict-related sexual violence.
Her husband, Prince Edward visited Zambia and came to Ndola around this time in 1979 or 1980 with his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
