🇿🇲 JUST-IN | ECZ begins validation of candidates for 40 proportional representation seats

Stakeholders have started arriving at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre as the Electoral Commission of Zambia prepares to validate candidates for the 40 proportional representation seats in the National Assembly.

The process involves party lists submitted by the United Party for National Development and the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity, the two political parties ECZ says qualified for allocation of the PR seats following the August 13 general election.

Candidates are expected to appear before the Returning Officer for validation of their respective party lists, marking another step towards completing the composition of Zambia’s new National Assembly.

The 40 proportional representation seats were introduced under Zambia’s revised electoral framework alongside the constituency-based seats, broadening the route through which political parties can secure representation in Parliament.

The validation exercise is taking place at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre’s Old Wing in Lusaka.
