ECZ is not being fair, transparent to opposition, says Tonse Deputy SG—voter protection
TONSE Pamodzi Alliance Deputy Secretary General Kennedy Kamba says the Electoral Commission of Zambia—ECZ has taken too long to begin accrediting polling agents, describing the delay as unacceptable.
Kamba questions how the Commission expects to accredit polling agents for all 13,529 polling stations across the country with only a month remaining before polling day.
He notes that each polling station requires two polling agents, making the accreditation exercise a significant undertaking that demands adequate time.
“ECZ said accreditation was going to be done online, but up to now it has not started. As an Alliance, we are wondering why there is this delay,” Kamba says.
The Deputy SG in charge of voter protection further adds that: “We want to see an ECZ that is fair and transparent. We have about 13,500 polling stations, and each of these polling stations requires two polling agents. To successfully accredit agents, stakeholders need enough time. But up to now, the accreditation process has not started.”
Kamba has accused the electoral body of failing to treat all political players fairly.
“To be honest, the Electoral Commission of Zambia is not being transparent and fair, especially to the opposition. I challenge ECZ to explain why it is delaying the accreditation of our polling agents,” Kamba says.
