ECZ receives final consignment of ballot papers for 2026 General Election
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has completed the delivery of all ballot papers for the 2026 General Election after the arrival of the final consignment, paving the way for the verification process ahead of polling day on August 13.
Lusaka, 30 July – The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has confirmed the successful arrival of all ballot papers required for the 2026 General Election, with a total of 387 pallets now in the country.
The completion of the delivery follows the arrival of the first consignment on Wednesday, July 29, which brought 202 pallets, and the final consignment on Thursday, July 30, containing a further 185 pallets
Speaking during a media briefing, ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro said the arrival of the second shipment marks the completion of the ballot paper delivery process for this year’s elections.
Mr Kasaro said the Commission will immediately begin verifying the ballot papers before distributing them to districts across Zambia.
He explained that the verification exercise will be conducted in the presence of representatives from political parties, civil society organisations, the media and other stakeholders to ensure the process remains transparent and credible.
According to Mr Kasaro, a second verification exercise will also be conducted at district level before the ballot papers are dispatched to individual polling stations ahead of the August 13 General Election.
Meanwhile, stakeholders have welcomed the completion of the ballot paper delivery process.
UPND Media Director Mark Simuuwe expressed satisfaction with the successful arrival of the ballot papers, describing the process as smooth and incident-free.
Tonse/Pamodzi Alliance Secretary General Celestine Mukandila, representing the National Reconciliation for Prosperity and Unity Party, also commended the Electoral Commission of Zambia for what he described as a transparent process
Civil Society Alliance on Legal Reforms Vice Chairperson David Mvula said the openness demonstrated throughout the exercise reflects efforts towards delivering a free and fair election.
The completion of ballot paper deliveries now shifts the Commission’s focus to verification and nationwide distribution as preparations for the August 13 polls enter their final stages.
