Results Will be Announced on the 17th August
THE results for the August 13, 2026, general elections are expected to be announced by August 17, 2026, at the least, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has said.
ECZ acting director of electoral operations Winner Mwanamoonga said the decision was an administrative measure by the commission and was not prescribed by law.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Mwanamoonga said the distribution of ballot papers to districts was expected to be completed today.
The distribution process has been on-going ahead of polling day.
And ECZ chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis urged stakeholders to guard against spreading misinformation and disinformation as the country approached polling day.
Ms Zaloumis said false information had the potential to undermine public confidence in the electoral process, create unnecessary anxiety among citizens and threaten peace.
She said the commission was aware that election periods often generated heightened public interest and increased the circulation of information through traditional and digital media platforms.
“It is for this reason that the commission places great importance on engagements such as today’s. By providing timely, factual and accurate information directly to you, we seek to ensure that there is a shared understanding of the electoral process and that any misconceptions are addressed promptly before they gain traction,” she said.
Ms Zaloumis encouraged stakeholders to ensure that only accurate information was shared with their members and supporters, saying this would minimise the spread of misinformation and disinformation while strengthening public confidence in the electoral process.
She said the commission remained guided by the principles of impartiality, professionalism, accountability and inclusiveness in discharging its responsibilities.
“As we enter the final days before polling day, let us continue to work together in a spirit of mutual respect, cooperation and dialogue. Our collective objective is to ensure that the Zambian people are able to exercise their democratic right in an environment that is peaceful, orderly and founded on trust in the electoral process,” Ms Zaloumis said.
