EFF President Julius Malema has once again weighed in on South Africa’s immigration debate, saying the country does not want illegal foreigners but believes those already living in South Africa should be legalised and properly documented.

Speaking during an EFF media briefing in Sandton, Johannesburg, Malema said the focus should be on fixing the country’s immigration system rather than targeting undocumented migrants. According to him, many foreign nationals are already part of South African communities, contributing to the economy and supporting their families.

Malema argued that instead of calling for mass deportations, government should create an efficient process to register and legalise undocumented foreign nationals who qualify to remain in the country. He maintained that proper documentation would help improve law enforcement, tax compliance and access to public services while allowing authorities to better manage immigration.

The EFF has consistently stated that it opposes illegal immigration but believes the solution lies in strengthening border management, improving the Home Affairs system and ensuring people living in the country are properly documented, rather than blaming all foreign nationals for South Africa’s challenges.

His remarks come as immigration remains one of the country’s most debated political issues, with different political parties proposing sharply different approaches ahead of future policy discussions.
