EMELDAH MUNASHABANTU RETAINS MAPATIZYA PARLIAMENTARY SEAT
United Party for national Development UPND Parliamentary candidate for Mapatizya Constituency has scooped the tightly contested poll against an Independent candidate Clive Miyanda.
Mapatizya Constituency Returning Officer, Mr. Newton Mudenda, has declared Hon. Emeldah Munashabantu the duly elected Member of Parliament for Mapatizya Constituency following the elections held on 13 August 2026.
Hon. Munashabantu polled 14,812 votes, defeating her closest challenger, Independent candidate Clive Miyanda, who secured 14,330 votes.
Mr. Mudenda announced the official results at 13:30 hours on Sunday at Zimba Secondary School, the constituency’s designated totalling centre.
The Returning Officer also declared four UPND and one Independent candidates duly elected as Ward Councillors.
In Chalimongela Ward, Stanford Bbeule won the seat with 620 votes, defeating Independent candidate Aswell Chikubayi, who polled 463 votes.
In Chuundwe Ward, Micheal Simweemba secured victory after obtaining 1,009 votes, ahead of Independent candidate Syakuba Micheal, who received 450 votes.
In Simwatachela Ward, Tobias Keenabanyama retained his seat with 2,277 votes, defeating Independent candidate Kanyawinyawi Alla, who polled 719 votes.
In Kanyanga Ward, Lweendo Siabasimbi successfully defended his seat after polling 1,683 votes, narrowly beating Shamalube Kasipi, who received 1,578 votes.
Meanwhile, Lazarus Simasiku was elected Councillor for Zimba Ward with 3,529 votes, defeating his closest rival, Sianduwe George, who polled 704 votes.
The newly elected civic leaders will join Council Chairperson Costa Kasiya and seven other UPND councillors in Chidi,Mulamfu,Mbwiko,Mafumba,Mangonda,Luyaba and Siamafumba wards who went unopposed during the nomination process to constitute the new Zimba Town Council.
