Banda’s Previous Escape Must Be Considered in Bail Debate – Liswaniso

UPND National Youth Chairperson Gilbert Liswaniso has questioned calls for the release of Emmanuel Jay Banda on bail, arguing that concerns over prolonged detention should be considered alongside his previous escape from police custody.

Mr Liswaniso said it was questionable the demand for  Banda’s release on grounds of prolonged detention before he had even been presented before court.

Mundubile and his friend have been in detention before Jay Jay,  so let him wait, Liswaniso said.

He noted that Emmanuel Jay Banda had previously escaped from police custody and remained at large for more than a year, a development he said raises legitimate concerns regarding the possibility of him absconding if released.

Mr Liswaniso further argued that those advocating for  Banda’s release should also take into account the seriousness of the allegations against him and allow the judicial process to proceed without undue pressure.

He stressed that justice should be allowed to take its course, cautioning against what he described as selective sympathy in matters concerning the administration of justice.

He warned those who undermine and insult the head of state that they law will visit them.

“The President is the security of the country and politicians should  know their limits”, he said.

He maintained that considerations surrounding bail should take into account all relevant circumstances, including the individual’s previous conduct and the need to ensure that the judicial process is not undermined
