EU WANTS NIGERIA TO REINTEGRATE BOKO HARAM FIGHTERS
The European Union has advised Nigeria to reintegrate former Boko Haram, ISWAP and JNIM fighters back into society.
The bloc has committed 731 million euros to the project.
The programme will deradicalise these fighters and reintegrate them into communities or the military.
Nigerians are furious.
The Senate has rejected the policy outright. Senator Adams Oshiomhole said it does not make sense to grant pardon to criminals while victims continue to suffer.
Soldiers on the frontline are also uneasy. They fear intelligence leaks and compromised operations.
The EU has a clear policy for its own citizens who join terrorist groups. They are prosecuted first.
The question is simple.
If the EU catches a terrorist, do they try to make him less radical and put him back into their military.
