BREAKING: EU’s Top Diplomat in Zimbabwe Found Dead
BREAKING NEWS: Katrin Hagemann, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Zimbabwe, has died, diplomatic sources have confirmed.
Hagemann, who took up her post in December 2025 after presenting her credentials to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, reportedly fell suddenly ill at her residence in Harare on Thursday morning. She was later found unresponsive by staff.
As the European Union’s top diplomat in Zimbabwe, Hagemann played a key role in strengthening relations between the EU and Zimbabwe, focusing on trade, investment, governance reforms and development cooperation. Her appointment came at a time when relations between Harare and Brussels were steadily improving.
The European Union has not yet issued an official statement on the cause of death, and authorities have not released further details. Diplomatic missions and government officials are expected to provide updates in the coming hours.
Katrin Hagemann had served in the post for less than a year before her sudden death. More details are expected to follow.
