EVEN IF I’M AN INDEPENDENT MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR KANKOYO CONSTITUENCY, I 100 PERCENT SUPPORT PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema’s GROW ZAMBIA AGENDA, POLITICS ASIDE, LETS FOCUS ON DEVELOPMENT NOW, SAYS EDDIE CHOMBA
Independent Kankoyo Member of Parliament Hon. Dr. Bishop Eddie Chomba has expressed support for President Hakainde Hichilema’s Grow Zambia Agenda, calling for national unity, economic transformation and development beyond partisan politics.
In a statement following the President’s address during the official opening of the First Session of the Fourteenth National Assembly, Dr. Chomba said the speech outlined a vision focused on addressing the needs of ordinary Zambians through production, job creation and inclusive economic growth.
He said the Grow Zambia Agenda, which highlights sectors such as agriculture, mining, energy and youth empowerment, presents an opportunity to strengthen the economy and improve the livelihoods of citizens.
As MP for Kankoyo Constituency in Mufulira, Copperbelt Province, Dr. Chomba said he was particularly encouraged by the emphasis on local value addition, employment creation and economic empowerment.
He noted that communities in Mufulira and across the Copperbelt needed an economy that translated national development policies into tangible benefits for local people.
“Time for politics is over; time for development is now,” Dr. Chomba declared, stressing that his support for beneficial government policies should not be interpreted as joining the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).
The Independent lawmaker said his priority remained serving the people of Kankoyo while supporting initiatives that advance national development, regardless of political affiliation.
Dr. Chomba expressed confidence that effective implementation of the Grow Zambia Agenda could help build a country that produces more of its own food, strengthens its energy sector and creates employment opportunities for its citizens.
He also called on fellow Members of Parliament to rise above partisan differences and work together in the national interest, urging the Fourteenth National Assembly to place the aspirations of Zambians at the centre of its work.
However, he emphasised that his support for progressive government policies would go hand in hand with his responsibility to provide objective checks and balances and contribute constructively to parliamentary debate.
Dr. Chomba said the country’s development required cooperation, accountability and a shared commitment to improving the lives of citizens.
He concluded by invoking God’s blessings upon Kankoyo Constituency and the Republic of Zambia.
