FIC DETAILS ALLEGED K18 MILLION DIVERSION BY PUBLIC OFFICER

A senior public officer allegedly diverted more than K18 million through transactions presented as payments to farmers and employees, according to Financial Intelligence Centre findings reported by News Diggers.

The FIC’s 11th Money Laundering Trends Report describes an alleged scheme spanning six years, involving an officer identified only as OT.

The officer allegedly used the names of legitimate beneficiaries while directing the payments into personal bank accounts.

According to the report, more than K10 million was spent on personal expenses.

The reported purchases included a bus, land, government securities and building materials believed to have been used to construct a house.

The findings describe suspected diversion of public funds and do not establish a criminal conviction.
