Fishermen Search for Floating Cargo After Container Ship Sinks in Strait of Hormuz
Days after the Singapore-flagged container ship GFS Pride sank near the Strait of Hormuz, reports have emerged of fishermen and small boats heading into the waters to collect cargo that spilled from the vessel.
Footage circulating on social media appears to show people navigating between floating containers and retrieving various goods, including items reported to be new products and French perfumes.
The ship sank on October 14 after catching fire. All 21 crew members were evacuated safely, according to Singaporean maritime authorities.
However, the origin and timing of all circulating footage have not been independently verified, and the vessel’s full cargo manifest has not been publicly confirmed.
The incident has left floating containers and scattered cargo in the strategically important waterway, raising concerns over maritime safety as recovery efforts and searches for goods continue.
